If you’re anything like us, you’ll be thinking about practicalities. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the things that will doubtless cross your minds!

Linen/Towels and Larder

Quality towels, bed linen and fluffy dressing gowns are all provided for you in Blairbeg. The kitchen is stocked with some basic larder products – sugar, flour, tea, coffee, salt, pepper, cling film, foil, baking paper, washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets, cloths and scourers and there is a washing machine in the cupboard behind the sofa.

Heating

There are modern electric heaters throughout the property and we’ll have the house warm for you on arrival. There’s also a fantastic Morso wood stove in the main living area that will be set and ready for you to light. A supply of wood and kindling is stored for you in the side shed, should you use up the house supply.

Please always think green when using the electric appliances, and switch things off when not in use, and be aware that items should never be left on top or in front of the heaters, as this is a fire risk and can also leave marks.

Health & Safety

All fire extinguishers and electrical equipment in the property are regularly checked. The property is fitted with heat, smoke and carbon monoxide sensors. As the property does not have a land line, and the mobile network coverage in the area is limited, there is a Vodafone phone set up in the property for emergencies. This will be registered to 112, as well as the normal 999. Please do not remove this phone from the property except in an emergency. Please contact David and Claire Thom at the Gardener’s Cottage, should you require emergency help.

Hillwalking

Whether you’re a novice or an experienced hill walker, each year people get caught out by the rapidly changing weather in the hills here. We are more than happy to print out a concise MWIS mountain weather forecast for you for the precise area you are hoping to explore. Just ask us before arrival and we will ensure this is done for you.

Pets

Blairbeg is a dog-friendly cottage, we do however ask that you keep them off the furniture and beds, and that the number of dogs is kept to a maximum of 2. Please let us know if you intend to bring dogs as there will be a small additional charge for this.

Outdoor facilities

Blairbeg offers a summer house with comfortable seating for the warmer months, clothes-drying line and pegs and an outside lockable shed in which you will find kindling, logs, newspaper, BBQ and charcoal. There’s also ample room to store your bikes. (Please note that bikes are left in the shed at your own risk and we do recommend you still use bike locks.)
